La Fragua Tower is an office building located in the heart of the city centre, just across the Monumento a la Revolución, one of the most important city landmarks. As the selected site sits in a corner, design envolved two sets of facades two different street fronts on the access level.
As Mexico city is a heavy seismic zone, design and construction regulations for high rise buildings are very strict. The tower design parted from this specific regulations and from it’s relationship to the Momument’s plaza and the monument itself. The first design resolution was to literally start having smaller floor plans as the building hight increased, just as the regulation stated and the second one was to make reference to the monument’s hight and copper like material of it’s dome. The irregular shape of the top floors is virtually completed with the same structural frame of the buidling, making it appear as a regular rectangular prism. The intention of all this levels is to desappear them with a temprered glass facade which reflects the sky.
