San Simón Courts

LOCATION: Iztapalapa, CDMX.

YEAR: 2012

CONSTRUCTION: 600 m2

TEAM: Pablo Pérez Palacios + Alfonso de la Concha Rojas, Miguel Vargas, Ignacio Rodríguez

The objective of this project was to give a new use to a basketball court that was in a very bad condition. The local community required a space to hold assemblies, meetings and workshops but the available budget for design and construction was very limited.

Our intention was to restore the basketball court and provide a covered space for neighbors. This was achieved with the simple gesture of raising the basketball court and the slab itself to create an open space for diverse activities.

The solution required a perimeter fence to avoid fallings. The final image that was achieved was as of a suspended lightweight cube. As part of the project, metal studs were recovered to generate spatial partitions and furnishings.
